Richard stops dead in his tracks and whips around, pulling his makeshift 'filter' down and shooting the Doctor a harsh look. "Patient Privacy." He glares at the doctor for a few seconds in silence before sighing and conversing with Air. "...Its not specifically anger that fuels it, its mostly adrenaline. The more fired up i get, the less sensible i become and the more opportunities the spirit has to take over. I wasn't particularly angry in that fight against the wolves. They were wolves doing what came naturally. What's there to get angry about?" He shrugs before continuing, "What 'flipped the switch' so to speak was the length of the battle and the ferocity with which i was fighting. Most fights don't last that long. Encounters with other people can be over in seconds. Animals are a different story, they spend most of their lives hunting and of course they're good at it. Fighting a pack of wolves wasn't too much of a problem, but the last two... Were different. I was forced to push myself and dig deep in order to take those two. My adrenaline reached its peak, and i lost control."
RD takes a few steps forward, beginning to make progress again as he continues, "In a fight, you focus on defeating your enemy. In an extended fight against a dangerous opponent or group you prioritize that focus. That's what the spirit takes advantage of. That's what it uses to gain control. It changes that focus from 'defeat' into 'destroy' then extends that focus to everything, not just my opponent. Lately I've been able to retain the focus and stop or at least slow the descent into insanity... But occasionally i do lose control and go completely berserk. Anyone and anything becomes a target for elimination, and i'm no longer in the pilot's seat."
Richard's face is rather solemn at the thought of going berserk, he unwraps his cape from around his face more as they get into the night air outside the cave. He then smirks a bit as he says "Stress can be a catalyst too. It builds over time and i'm forced to release it when it reaches its peak. Usually i'll go and handle a job like this or do an extended exercise, wear myself out somewhat to get rid of it. No worries in terms of arguments or anything though, it'd have to get REALLY heated for me to lose it like that and even then i'll leave to go blow off that steam before i snap. He takes his own soul trap from within his armor and shows it to her; it glimmers in the moonlight, its clarity giving off a sense of calm."This bauble is a bit like a dream catcher. The spirit lets off a kind of radiation as it tries to take over, this item darkens to allow me to keep an eye on how long i have until i need to work off the extra energy. By shaving off that extra energy i can keep it in check and stay myself."
"Kinda hard to explain that to people without them just freaking out, Berserkers just don't get good publicity... so I've been conflicted on how to let the others know..." He picks his earlier-thrown trench knife from the ground and sets it back in his sheath, and scratches the back of his neck in concern.
