    Guide: Play-By-Post Empty Guide: Play-By-Post

I realize there is some clarification needed and things to be brought to attention. In order to have a healthy session, we need to establish a general idea of how things work and bring clarity on some of the  situations that require more guidance and this topic has been long overdue.

To start things off, as a note; There are very few limitations to this RP, characters, customization, environments, histories, and so on and so forth. As such the players have a lot of freedom during their posts, to manipulate, guide, and in some cases even lead the story along, but it's important to keep in mind that this is a group effort and everyone has a part in it just as much as the next, with exception of the Game Master, who has the ultimate say. That being said, we'll continue with the index.

    1. Activity
    2. Turn-order
    3. Analysis
    4. Control
    5. Questions
    6. Side-Quests

    1. Activity

This RP is, by clear view, comprised of multiple people. We are at the time 6 or 7 people and have the ability to grow in numbers, still. Being that way, it's important that the players involved don't hold one another back. Some people will be more passionate than others and excited to post, and it is fully their right to do so. However we need to stay in a certain turn order to stay fair to the others who don't necessarily have the time to post constantly.

This is a privilege as well as a duty. This means that you have to get a minimum number of posts in per day in order to keep things moving as you'll be obstructing everyone waiting in line to post. As well, chances are, your character(s) won't be standing by idly without any form of reaction, which usually leaves you required to post, rather than to skip a turn. So please be considerate of others and try to get a minimum of 1 post per day.

Naturally, everyone tends to get busy from time to time or lose interest in something. So if either of these things are the case, you can feel free to discuss a reason why and how your character will be removed from play, whether that be temporarily or permanently. This has to happen in advance, if possible. In other circumstances, it's entirely acceptable for the Game master to remove your character from play until the issue has been resolved.

    2. Turn-order

This is pretty simple and most people already grasp the general workings of this principle.
In order to stay fair and ensure everyone gets to post, we play by a turn order, which dictates who gets to post before who. This way, everyone will have their turn during every situation, unless taken out of the turn order for certain events or inactivity.

The turn-order can be changed by the Game master at any time, and if a player wishes to forfeit or adjust their order they may discuss this with the Game master. Sometimes the Game master will post out of order for dialogue or certain fast paced events. This will be unavoidable at times, especially with dealing with NPC or a rapid change in environment and events.

    3. Analysis

In order to avoid any misconception or having to fix posts, create questions or cause confusion, it's important that everyone who posts read their post carefully and compare it to previous posts. It's just as important that you understand your own post as well as others understanding yours, so please make sure all the details are in the right place before sending your post, otherwise edits will have to occur in some occasions.

Just as well, it's important that you analyse everything the other players post, especially if the Game master makes a post, because much needed information may get lost if no care is taken during this step.

    4. Control

Players naturally have control over their own characters. But this alone wont help create any in-depth or big development in the story or environment and other characters.

Players are allowed to make subtle additions to pre-determined environment, as well as certain areas and NPC that are linked to their past or possible desired future. Within reason, that is.
Common sense is required by anyone wishing to take advantage of this feature when posting and it's important that when doing so, you don't alter or add anything that could get in the way of the Game master's planned story branches.

Ultimately, the Game master controls all environments, and NPC, as well as most events that happen. However players are allowed to integrate those happenings within the post as long as they do not control any NPC more than common sense would allow them to. This also goes for controlling other player's characters.

If at one point in time you wish to heavily influence a player's character or NPC, you may discuss this with the appropriate party and come to a solution of how things will work out. This applies to the Game master as well, to a degree, though like stated above, the Game master has ultimate control over everything.

    5. Questions

Sometimes certain environments or events are unclear, and sometimes we wish to include features or ask about others. Asking is entirely okay and in fact encouraged. If you're unsure of what is happening or is going to happen, and what you can and can't do or what is or isn't possible, please don't hesitate to ask the Game master or even other players to gain a better understanding of the situation.

    6. Side-Quests

Side-Quests in this case aren't a form of story unrelated to the main-quest but usually something that is directly related to the main quest but happens in a different place. For example if an individual or small portion of the group splits up from the main group and isn't in the immediate vicinity then the Game master will create a Side-Quest for them to play in separately.

The point of this is to avoid clutter in the main quest and allow the side-quest players more freedom with posting. This also means that side-quests are more fast paced than the main, and in some occasions one will have to wait for the other. Though chances are, with good activity, this will be easily avoidable.
