Hello!
One of the biggest things I've come to realize in the RP is that sometimes some of the tasks that should be quick and easy tend to take way too much time. For example; The group needs new clothing and armor, weapons, and food and supplies so they go out shopping.
Initially I wanted the game to be a bit more life like by going through step by step all the events that happen during this in great detail with dialogue and descriptions and what not but it seems that this tends to slow things down considerably and players spend a lot of time standing around doing meaningless things when they could be doing much more exciting things, or simply just move on to the next issue. So I've thought of something pretty simple to speed through all of this, especially since some of the players have even addressed this issue in the past.
The Idea:
FFMT (Fast Forwarding Menial Tasks) will work in the way that whenever the group does a bunch of small little tasks and errands, taking as an example the Shopping scene, I will make a post in a separate section where players can post (regardless of what order) what they would like to see happening during this.
Giving an example;
The group is traveling across the markets when a few of the members realize they have some things to pick up before heading out for their next locale.
*GM Makes a post*
Player 1: My character buys a new jacket and maybe looks around for a small cheap dagger or throwing weapons.
Player 2: I'm going to pick up some torches and rope, thinking ahead of time, and I will listen around for any information about <Generic Topic of Interest>.
Player 5: Character is going to ask around and see if anyone knows <Generic Topic of Interest>.
Player 4: Does nothing
Etc, etc, etc.
*GM Makes follow up post in Related Channel*
The group spends X amount of time out running errands and shopping.
Player 1 spends X amount of money and aquires <Item> and <Item>.
Player 2 spends X amount of mnoey and aquired <Item> and caught wind of some gossip. Apperantly <Relevate Information>.
Player 5 finds out nothing of interest.
Player 4 does nothing.
And then the chat continues after that whole ordeal.
Basically tl;dr the idea is that you will be able to skip all the tedious and menial bits and continue on with the story without having to drag out any possible events much longer than they need to be.
Let me know what you're idea to this is in this topic. Feel free to reply and explain your thoughts on this idea and what kind of problem you see, if any, or what kind of adjustments you would suggest.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and reply
